The Rummage House

The Rummage House

The Rummage House is a Non-profit Community Thrift Store designed to benefit homeless and disadvantaged youth in the state of Oregon. It is our goal to raise awareness of the homelessness numbers in our schools. Starting here in our home town of Beaverton and Hillsboro were many people would be amazed to find out that the Beaverton School District alone has approx. 1800 students reported homeless (Beaverton School District, 2012). Also, 1 out of every 10 students in the Beaverton School district lives below the federal poverty line (Katu.com, 2010) and more than 37% of the districts students receive free or reduced lunches (katu.com, 2010). In the Hillsboro School District approx. 400 students are reported homeless (oregonlive, 2010) and in the state of Oregon as a whole there is over 22,000 students considered homeless. These numbers are heartbreaking. The goal of The Rummage House is to not just build awareness but to create opportunities for our youth to build themselves up to be productive members of society and to have all possible means available to them to accomplish that. Please join us in our fight for our children. April is the grand opening of our first store and will provide us the means to fight for our cause. We are in the process of fundraising so we can kick our grand opening off in style and start by giving back to our youth. If you are able to help in anyway it would be greatly appreciated. Please take a look at our fundraising link and have fun shopping, when you are done please share it with your friends and family. Thank you for helping us reach not just our friends and family but yours as well. It takes each one, to reach one. I will continue to keep you updated here.
